Rosemary's Baby, Pican

Pican is a Southern inspired restaurant in the uptown neighborhood of Oakland. If you are looking for a refreshing and aromatic cocktail to start your meal, order a Rosemary's Baby. I loved the rosemary aroma as you take a sip from either the straw or directly from the glass with the zing from the gin. I must admit that I wish there was more hint of rosemary in drink. Good to know, since I will ask for that next time!

Pican is a Southern restaurant located in the Uptown neighborhood of Oakland. I rarely get across to the East Bay and am glad that I met friends at Pican before an event. What else would a cocktail enthusiast order at Pican than a bourban cocktail? The Black Hand is a wonderful addition to the Pican Signature Cocktail menu. When I ordered it, the server said that it was his favorite drink. I can definitely see why. It's smooth, well balanced, and fragrant. This is my first drink with a vinegar in it, although it is a balsamic syrup. Loved it!

Michael Bauer of the SF Chronicle recently mentioned in his "This Week" article that he left Pican early due to poor service. I did not notice any poor service at all(perhaps since the article was written). Pican serves great Southern inspired cuisine and cocktails served with great Southern hospitality.

Pican is located in downtown Oakland.  Per their website, they serve "California infused Southern Cuisine".  Besides an extensive bourbon list, the cocktail menu includes sections for Pican Signature Cocktails, Southern Twists and Classics.  I fancied a drink from the Southern Twist cocktail, the Deep South.  With Zappoan tequila, honey syrup, lemon juice and bitters, I felt like a kid at the county fair all over again.  This was definitely a gourmet lemonade spiked with top shelf tequila. I needed to squeeze the lemon garnish in the cocktail because it was a bit to sweet for my taste. This thirst quenching cocktail is a perfect medicine for a hot and humid southern day!

I can't wait to return to try more of their delicious Southern cuisine and to end the meal with one of the Specialty Hot Drinks like the Espresso Cocktail, Cafe Brulot, Coffee Nudge, Blue Blazer or the Black Ink.

The cocktail menu at Pican in Oakland is divided into Pican Signature, Southern Twist and Classics.  Since I've been wanting to try a Rye cocktail, I chose the Stone Rye from the Southern Twist portion of the menu.  I was pleasantly surprised with this concoction of Redemption Rye, rock candy syrup, Cherry Heering and egg whites.  The Cherry Heering (a Danish cherry liqueur) not only adds a hint of cherry to the drink, but creates a beautiful pink hue.  Despite the rock candy syrup and the Cherry Heering, this drink is not noticeably sweet.  The rye grounds the cocktail.  The cherry on top was the perfect sweet ending.  As I told the server, this is my kind of drink.
