The Barrister at The Cavalier in San Francisco

When I think of a barrister, images of a British lawyer donning a white wig and arguing the merits of a case come into vision. But thankfully for those in the profession in the UK, per a Daily Telegraph article the  "Pompous, pointless and itchy" wigs are no more. With so much tradition and order in the barrister profession, it makes sense that one would be inspired to create a cocktail. One of my research companions ordered a Barrister from the Cavalier Classic section as his pre-dinner cocktail. We basically ordered most of the dishes that our server recommended. So when we asked for what two desserts he think we'd like, he responded "I'll take care of you." Since I didn't know what desserts we'd be getting, I also asked, what cocktail would pair well with the desserts. He responded "I've got that too." He brought me a Barrister to enjoy with the Chocolate Delice and Lemon Posset desserts. It's perfect drink for a hardworking and fearless barrister or wannabe barrister to enjoy at the end of a long day.

The Victorian at The Cavalier in San Francisco

When I had my pre-dinner cocktail at the The Cavalier bar, the bartender kindly suggested several non-sweet drinks and several dishes to order once we were seated. Since her suggestion on the White Lady cocktail was spot on (meaning not sweet), I ordered the Victorian from the Colony Cocktails section of the menu. The amaro cherries are a perfect ending to this refined and confident cocktail. Or perhaps that cherry treat is what convinces you to order another round of Victorians.

Rum Punch at The Cavalier in San Francisco

When one of my research companions perused The Cavalier's cocktail menu, they didn't know what to order since they favor vodka cocktails. The all spice, pineapple and ginger ingredients sealed the deal for the Rum Punch from the Colony Cocktails section of the menu. The punch had a nice kick of spice yet an underlying sweetness. Like The Cavalier's The White Lady cocktail, this Rum Punch is easy tp drink. Maybe too easy...

Twisted Thistle IPA at The Cavalier in San Francisco

One of my research companions for the evening was excited to see an IPA on The Cavalier's drink menu that they haven't tried yet. The Twisted Thistle IPA is brewed by Belhaven in Scotland. I love the description on this 5.3% abv IPA on their website, "A stunning India Pale Ale (IPA), don't think that Belhaven's Twisted Thistle has anything jaggy, spikey, prickly or otherwise pain-inflicting in its nature. Quite the opposite. Your taste buds will tingle with pleasure after a sip or two of this golden nectar. A real treat from our master brewers in Dunbar."

The White Lady at The Cavalier in San Francisco

I arrived a bit early for my dinner reservations last night at the newly opened The Cavalier and was glad to see the bar was not busy. So I headed straight there for a pre-dinner drink. I specifically asked the bartender to recommend a cocktail that wasn't sweet. Since I didn't want to start the evening with a dark spirit, I chose the dainty White Lady cocktail from the Club Cocktails section ("First mixed at Famous London Clubs"). As you take your first sip, there's a beautiful light lemon scent. It's easy to drink this cocktail fast. So hold the reigns and enjoy this cocktail. You can easily order another.

The Drink - The White Lady, $10

Per the menu, this was first served at the Savoy in 1930.
