The Bitter Truth at Spruce in San Francisco

The reality of living in a wonderful foodie and cocktail city is that I rarely make it to some of my favorite restaurants, like Spruce, as often as I would like. It's been over a year since my last visit. Each of the cocktails on the menu looked so inviting. I settled on the Bitter Truth. After which, I wished I had the the time to sip my way through the cocktail menu. I hope it won't take another year for me to return.

Rhubarb Blush, Pok Pok

Pok Pok NY is located in the Columbia Street Waterfront neighborhood of Brooklyn (one of New York City's boroughs). I just love the color of this drink from the citrusy aperol and the rhubarb bitters. Beware, too many of these and you may find doing something to make you blush.

They also have No Proof drinks (non-alcoholic). For a next visit, of interest are the drinking vinegars (tamarind, pomegranate, honey, raspberry, pineapple and apple) which are used in many of the cocktails.

The Drink - Rhubarb Blush, $10
Aperol, gin, fresh lime and rhubarb bitters served on the rocks

The Place - Pok Pok Brooklyn
New York City, Brooklyn

Pecos Punch, West of Pecos

West of Pecos is a Southwestern restaurant in the Mission District of San Francisco. After a long ride on the trail or in the urban jungle of trying to find parking in the Mission, the Pecos Punch is a refreshing light pick me up for the weary eyed traveller with the gentle sweetness from a ripe cantaloupe, the low glycemic effect of the citrusy grapefruit and a hint of basil. I just love the tin cup that this punch is served in. I can imagine this punch in a larger bowl to share with friends and scooping your next serving with the tin cup. Beware, with one too many, you may start Roy Roger's "Happy Trails to you, until we meet again...".

The Drink - Pecos Punch, $8
Blanco tequila, Aperol, cantalope,  freshly squeezed grapefruit and basil

The Place - West of Pecos
San Francisco, Mission
Dinner nightly, full bar

Other West of Pecos Drinks
Do it Yourself Lemonade (non-alcoholic)
Prickly Pecos Margarita
